NordVPN

I use NordVPN on my desktop, laptop, and mobile phone. VPN stands for “virtual private network” – a service that encrypts your internet traffic and protects your online identity. If you use public Wi-Fi, a VPN is a must!

Web Hosting

Flywheel

Flywheel

Flywheel is a newer hosting company that I’ve started to use. Their cost is a little higher than Siteground, at least initially, but their easy to use dashboard and excellent support make them worth it.

Siteground

I’ve been happily using Siteground for over 5 years. Their support is absolutely top-notch. I prefer using their chat support to phone support. I never wait in the queue more than about 30 seconds, and their support technicians are always polite and knowledgeable.

WP Engine

WP Engine is a hosting company that I myself have not used. However, I have worked with other freelancers and clients who use them, and I’ve heard nothing but positive things.

iThemes Hosting

iThemes Hosting is provided by iThemes, the makers of BackupBuddy, iThemes Security Pro, and iThemes Sync. It’s worth checking out!

WordPress Themes

ThemeForest

ThemeForest is a website owned by Envato. There are hundreds of WordPress themes available for purchase on ThemeForest. In general, the best-selling themes are the best quality.

Elegant Themes

Elegant Themes is a WordPress theme club that allows you lifetime access and updates to a variety of themes (and plugins!) for a low price. Their newest and most popular themes are Divi and Extra. Complete with a very handy page builder, I often recommend these themes for new website owners with little or no previous experience.

WordPress Plugins

BackupBuddy

Having multiple, up-to-date backup copies of your website are so important! Before I start work on a client’s existing site, I install BackupBuddy to ensure I have a complete backup copy of their site before any modifications or fixes. For new sites, I also immediately install the plugin so that I can manually or automatically back up all progress. All backups are stored in the cloud for total peace of mind.

Gravity Forms

Gravity Forms is the most flexible and reliable form builder for WordPress. Build virtually any type of form. Add-ons extend functionality.

iThemes Security Pro

Without a doubt, iThemes Security Pro is the best security plugin available for your self-hosted WordPress website. It is one of the first plugins I install on any new site I create as it is packed with features like brute-force protection, 404 detection, RECAPTCHA support for login and registration pages, and more. I can proudly say none of my sites have ever been hacked, mostly thanks to this plugin.

iThemes Sync

iThemes Sync allows me to manage multiple sites from one central dashboard. I can apply updates, install plugins, monitor security, and more. It’s a definite time saver for people who have multiple WordPress sites.

WP Forms

WP Forms is another very good forms plugin that I’ve used. It’s similar to Gravity Forms in that it offers add-ons that can extend functionality.

MonsterInsights

MonsterInsights brings your Google Analytics stats right to your WordPress dashboard!

SeedProd Coming Soon Pro

SeedProd Coming Soon Pro calls itself the best ‘Coming Soon’ plugin for WordPress, and I totally agree. There are tons of customization options to create your site’s coming soon page while it’s under construction or undergoing maintenance. And the plugin author, John, seriously provides the quickest support I’ve ever encountered.
